I'm a fourth generation Texan, born in Dallas and raised mostly in Houston area. Cut my teeth surfing at Surfside Beach starting in summer of '61 (age 10), mostly riding rentals for several years, then bought my first board from 'Mama' Williamson at BJ's Surf Shop in Houston. It was a 7'6" Surfboards Australia, with - radically kicked up round nose...green with yellow deck, my Banana Board. Surfed G-Town, Surfside, Port A and South Padre with it. One GCSA Spring Break Comp @ SPI in '68 or '69 (kinda blurry, now). Surfed Florida some in '70. Joined USN in '71, surfed in Hawaii & many East Coast sites with it & a 6'3" Rick I snagged in '72. By the early 80's had given up due to medical issues. Passed my boards to my son and watched him take off. He still surfs when he can. Now, I live on a lake in East Texas, have some back issues and an artificial knee, but I head to the coast and get out on my boogie board every chance I get. Can't shake the STOKE, ya know... PRAY FOR SURF!
