Street wear by fine artists, Lauren Stout and Ashley West.
Two and a half years ago, Lauren and I stumbled across a video contest for the well known, English, EDM group The Prodigy. We starred in a video with some friends. Acting as delinquents, we wore a painted gang symbol, resembling a feather, under our right eye. Little did we know, that symbol would be the precursor for gangfeather®'s logo.
Days later, I was in front of a computer in my AP 2D Art class, thinking of what typography to use on a CD cover for a project. The feather had been swimming in my head for the past couple days. Using Photoshop, I decided to redraw the symbol. Replacing the original finesse and curve of the design, I gave it an new, edgy, geometric look. I had my logo, but now I needed a fake band name. Well, it was a fictitious gang symbol that looked like a feather...hmmm. Oh, I'll call it gangfeather®. Poof! And the the name was born.

About 6 months later Ashley and I were talking about how we are not well suited to work for anyone else. In short the 9-5 is like a death sentence for us, just thinking about it gives us panic attacks. First and foremost we are fine artists, but we want our art to reach the masses. The only way to do that is to make its format practical and affordable.
I had taken some screen printing classes at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art), and fashion has always been an interest. So, when we realized that street wear was going to be our medium we started to get really excited. Ashley suggested that we use the feather sign that we had used in the contest video, and the name gangfeather®. The name captivated me by juxtaposing abrasiveness and elegance.
