Hurley’s world-famous Rip My Shred Stick Tour is back and ready to hit a beach near you stopping in Galveston and Corpus Christi in 2012. This year the tour has expanded from 18 stops to 30, effectively bringing the gift of surfing to more communities than ever before. Starting in Puerto Rico on June 2, stopping twice in Texas June 8th and June 10th, Rip My Shred Stick will reach hundreds of young surfers in a span of more than 10,000 miles. The inclusion of an extra stop in Texas, stops in Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Camp Lejeune Marine base and two additional stops in the Great Lakes, along with the new 48-foot self-contained Shred Stick tour bus, will undoubtedly make this year the best yet.
We were stoked to find out that there are two stops in Texas on this year’s tour, where Rip My Shred Stick allows kids 16 and under to hang out with the Hurley team including Rob Machado, Pat O’ Connel, Noah Snyder and Zach Hula Hartley, where they will test-drive their boards and compete in a no-pressure, all-fun surf event. “It’s not your typical contest,” says Hurley’s Core Accounts Marketing Manager Zach “Hula” Hartley, “it’s based on a fun scale rather than an experience scale. And that’s the most important part for me; that everyone wins and has a good time.” Thanks to our sponsors, all contestants will receive a goodie bag filled with prizes from: Spy, Futures, Waterman’s Sunscreen, Mophie, Freestyle, Stance, INT, Go Pro and TransWorld SURF.
Along with a surf contest, participants will be treated to a post-event party with a video, photo slideshow, food, athlete meet-and-greets and more. For every $50 worth of Hurley product purchased at our participating retailers, you’ll receive a Supersuede Hurley boardshort or T-shirt to customize for free.
